Listen :: 10 Boxing Day Electronica Chillout Tunes

Words: Ellie Ward

Feeling stuffed to the hilt on yesterday's mountain of food? Not inclined to move further from the sofa and want a break from the Boxing Day sales? Then feast your ears on this collection of non-fattening, non-ear shredding, electronic chilled tunes that will give you a half-hour reprieve.

SISSYSOCKS - WANDER
Melbourne lo-fi synthpop artist Tom Briglia (formerly of Parading and Creeks) gives a taste of his upcoming third solo record with this (Architecture In Helsinki) James Cecil-produced track. It's been a long time since his 2012 releases 'Bloodied' and 'Because We Have Things In Common', but this return is well worth the wait.

SHY GIRLS - WHY I LOVE
We heard the wonderful 'Trivial Motion' last month, now Portland, Oregon's bedroom singer/producer Dan Vidmar, returns with another equally lush textured, R&B track from his upcoming debut album 'Salt', released on January 20 2017 via Hit City USA.

SOFT LASHES - LANCER
One man operation, Chicago's Michael Tenzer - guitar, synths, drum machine, vocals and production - offers a new single ahead of debut album, 'Hypersensuality', which drops early 2017 via label, Wild Patterns, of luminous 80s synths, reverbed guitar lines and chorus-tinged bass.

ALTA - MESS
Featured by Little Indie back in July with 'Plans' (rating a 4.5/5), another four-minute hypnotic groove track from the Melbourne electronic beats duo's October EP 'Sincere'.

QUIET BOY - REDEEM
Following the release of ‘Sundance’ earlier in 2016, London-based Nick Trepka now unveils the first single from his dream electronica solo project debut EP, 'Earwig', arriving next Spring. The track showcases a bold songwriting and vocal approach that comes directly from the heart - the latter in the last minute taking a wonderfully unexpected lush and soulful turn.

MEN I TRUST - PLAIN VIEW
The Canadian indie dance/trip-hop quartet from Quebec City meld repetitive layered instrumentation and harmonies in this slow-burning melter.

EASE - COMING THROUGH ME
Stockholm’s new dark electronic pop duo - Niclas Lindgren and Siri Jennefelt (Saigon) - released this debut single ‘Coming Through Me’ through Häxrummet Records, the first cut off the band’s upcoming EP ‘Latest Aches’ out on January 25 2017.

FOURTH PEOPLE - THE ENCHANTER
Guitar duo - Alex Cowie, rhythm guitar, vocals; Liam Hargreaves, lead guitar - from Chorley, Lancashire, play with psychedelic influences on this delicately refined number. Produced by Michael Whalley from Grave Diggers Union, who also features on drums and bass on the track.

THE GLASS CHILDREN - TO THE LIGHT
London's dark electronic duo -David Fairweather and Daniella Kleovoulou - follow August's 'Do Well' with a new slice of synth-driven 80s-influenced sounds with ethereally textured vocals.

SWEET WHIRL - MAGIC REALNESS
Melbourne vocalist/keyboardist of slo-mo pop duo Superstar, Esther Edquist, steps out with her first solo release. Employing just vocals and electric bass, this track from her 'O.K. Permanent Wave' album (released at the end of November through Nice Music), is experimentally captivating.
